The Filoli Estate is a beautiful house, gardens and grounds about 30 miles south of San Francisco. Frank Carney is a volunteer that works there and he took us to see it. Theere is an Irish connection to the house as the man who had it built, William Bourn II also owned Muckross House in County Kerry. The walls of the ballroom are decorated with a mural of the Muckross estate.  While the house is quite nice, the real attractions are the gardens and the grounds. The gardens are beautifuly maintained, featuring losts of shrubs, bushes, hedges, trees and flowers, expecially roses named for celebrities like Dolly Parton and Ingrid Bergman amongst others. The grounds are spacious and great for walks. There is a restaurant that sells some lovely food and it’s a place well worth visiting that probaly isn’t as high profile as other areas in San Francisco.
